Quitting D2?
Has anyone here quit D2? Did you you miss it after you quit?

I've "quit" D2 three times. First time it was because I was moving to DAoC. After that game lost my interest I came back to D2 for a while. I quit again when I got into SW:G, but then that game lost my interest too. Then I played D2 again for a bit before I just quit because I had finally had enough of it. I wasn't really playing anything else for a while, but then I got into the GW Beta and that's what I play now.

Yes, and yes. I had reason to revisit months ater I stopped playing, and the music and the look of the game made me think "Oh, I did love this game." But it's not the game I knew, and I don't have the energy or the heart to relearn it after 1.10. And... well... I have something that I love more.
I will say I got tears in my eyes when I found last fall that my characters were all expired. I had my Bowazon since the day the game opened, June 29, 2000, and my Summoning Druid since the day that the XP opened. I stupidly let them expire. But I hadn't played even a few minutes in more than a year, had only reset the account to keep the characters from "dying." In the end, it's ok that they are gone.
I will say, D2 was, for me, one heck of a ride. I will always love it, love the memories I have of the team who made it, love my mercenary Gaile, and recall with great fondness the fun that I had in the playing. *sniff*

I quit D2 a couple times, mainly from overplaying it and getting tired of the game- only to come back a few months later to start playing again. GW finally cured my addiction- I haven't had the desire to log in since I got accepted into the Alpha test- if I hadn't, I'd probably still be playing in the downtimes between beta weekends.

D2 was just a terrible addiction... as soon as I managed to quit playing without feeling like wanting to go back to play I was as happy as when I first got the game.

I just quit eventually. Now I can't stand to play it at all, I get sick of it within minutes.

I quited D2... 5-6 months ago, I enver *quited* between that, so I played it for 4 years straight. It was a very good game, the story was nice to! I also had a tear in my eye when I saw, last time I checked, my Bowason, my dual-claw assassin and my MF sorc... damn did I place many energy in those (though I never, EVER, managed to get to lvl 99).
I must admit I was addicted... I mean, 4 years straight with no other games? Wow, thats increadible! Although, even if I'm with GW, their is a mod for D2 that I am waiting for a long time now (the mod has been in project for over a year now) because it will completely change the game. It's suposed to now have districts (theirs no more acts) and diffrent quests, difrent characters, diffrent skills, diffrent maps, diffrent story maybe... it's wil be like D3 or something like that... oh well.

I quitted D2 also a couple of times, but I can start up whenever I want, gotta love single player. I stopped playing when I got in the GW alpha though.

I used to play D2 pretty excessively... but eventually the realization comes that you're repeating the same 5 acts over and over, and farming for items so that when you click on things, they die a little faster then they did before. When the 1.10 patch came out, I went through it yet again and finished all difficulties with an MA Sassy (about the only class that doesn't have to worry about the fact that everything is immune to something) and after that.. it was like, "I never have to play this game again." Lo and behold, I haven't.

I played back before the expansion. I just tried to play recently and there are too many spammers that jump in a game and start shouting out whatever item/character selling website they represent. I ignore them, but they keep popping up. It's gotten to the point where I just make a game for myself and play solo D2 online.

In a few word - sort of kind of. Consider Guild Wars to be a cross between a traditional mmorpg and what Diablo 2 was. http://www.diablo2.com for more info.

D2 was a fallback game for me and some friends, but it's pretty dead and we've been looking for a good game to replace it. highest level character i had was a lvl 72 assassin. quit playing online pretty early, couldn't stand all the spam and hacked PKs. after that we used to lan party it, then got into FPSs with the original Unreal. now THAT was a blast, and the first UT was way fun - HEADSHOT!. the game i really miss online is MYTH:TFL. now it's years later and there hasn't been anything we've all wanted to play until now.

Yeah.. I played it for about a year, half of it LAN, and half of it online. Had a better time playing online, though. I quit about ten months ago, after the GW E34E event. That event instantly killed D2 for me, and I haven't been able to play since, hehe.

I quit D2 about month after it came out. For me, I didn't enjoy it as much as D1, plus a lot of my guildmates moved to a different game.

I've never quit, and still enjoy it
Have played since December of 2000 and play to this day. Some may get bored with the mechanics of the game, but it has always been a challenge to build better characters and meld the synergies of their gear. 1.10 was a huge challenge to adapt to, but once advanced rune words were available, it became enjoyable again. It isn't the magic find or PK/dueling aspect, it's simply the enjoyment of building advanced characters that always kept me playing. And that's the point. ALL games eventually get boring or tiresome, but if the developers inject fresh content on a regular basis, the game will go on and stay enjoyable. I've never played Starcraft, Warcraft, or Everquest (except free trials) because I was 'spoiled' by the dynamics of D2. After my initial impression of the GW beta was changed by reading the strategy involved (thanks in great part to this site) and playing with my closest friend, I am positive it will equal my enjoyment of D2.

Collecting dust
D2 was terrific and absolutely fun when I played! Its been so long because of other responsibilities that its hard to get back to it now. Even if I had the opportunity I'm too psyched about this game to think about any other long term commitment to any other game. I guess its just collecting dust now... watch out eBay! Here it comes!

I quit D2 too many times I cant count, Everytime I would come back but, the last time I came back, I didnt really have fun because I had played it so much earlier and was so good. D2 was one of the funnest games I had ever played I'd have to say.
